There I would learn by being constantly defeated by MTG Pro and future WOTC employee Melissa Detora. I have many memories of shady, back alley game stores where the paint on the walls looked suspiciously like blood. It was during this time where I started attending local game stores and battling in FNM. Discussing decks in math class with local PTQ endboss William Moore was a great way for this noob to expand his knowledge (thanks for listening to me gush over Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon Will!).
In high school around the time of the release of Scars of Mirrodin I was reintroduced to Magic. It wouldn't be until near the end of high school when I would begin my more competitive adventure. I would continue picking up set theme decks and random booster packs for a few years before shelving the hobby. Plated Slagwurm, and Rhox (how can you even beat regenerate!). Simply battling starter decks versus my brother and some friends, the real powerhouses of the living room floor were Pewter Golem. My early days of casual Magic were much less flashy than Affinity orElves. Needless to say, I was completely hooked and after returning home set out to get my own cards. Not the easiest of decks to learn the game with but maybe this was the start of a long addiction to cheating Colossuses into play. It was there that I played my first game of Magic, Qumulox Affinity vs Tooth and Nail Elves. One of those days my curiosity got the better of me and I joined the group.
Every day some of the older scouts would all be huddled around a wooden picnic table. I began my Magic adventure like many young Americans at Boy Scout camp. He's a content machine, putting out videos left and right and streaming as much as possible, but he also heads the group of players who help collect data every weekend on the Magic OnlineChallenges, and he also puts out a lot of content for players newer to the format as well. I'm talking of course about Justin Gennari. And in that regards I give the people I work with on these the leverage and freedom to tell their own story because I have often felt it is more authentic and more interesting that way.įor this first one, it felt appropriate to start with one of the current format's major ambassadors because he truly has been that person for a few years now. What I love about these articles is that it is more than that, it is about telling stories. If a player is instructed to draw multiple cards, that player performs that many individual card draws.ħ02.51a Dredge is a static ability that functions only while the card with dredge is in a player’s graveyard. Then you return both of those cards to your hand and mill a number of cards equal to the sum of their Dredge numbers.ġ21.2. If you would like to dredge multiple cards in 1 action, you can shortcut this by saying "I'm going to draw 2 cards, I'm going to replace those draws with dredging CARDNAME1 and CARDNAME2". Then you return CARDNAME to your hand and mill that many cards. To do this "properly" in the most formal way, you would say "I'm drawing a card and replacing my draw with CARDNAME". Draw 3? Ok that's what I want, I'll Dredge using my other 2 draws instead of drawing". So you could in theory be like "I'm looking for a specific card. More than that, though, when you draw cards, you do so one by one. Yes you can dredge both cards, and yes you can select which of the five draws you are choosing to replace with a dredge.
